Of Leadership, Failure, and Business as Mission

The following comes from a Nov 3/25 memo from Five Capitals.  It is a great reminder for everyone involved in Business as Mission.

You can’t lead without a few scars

Failure isn’t final. It’s feedback.

The best leaders don’t avoid mistakes, they mine them. They get curious, not defensive. They extract lessons, recalibrate fast, and move again with clarity.

If you fell this week, don’t waste it.

Ask: What is this trying to teach me? Then, get back up faster than before.

Resilience isn’t about being unbreakable. It’s about being unshakable.

In the 20th year for IBEC Ventures, I think a reminder of the scars is helpful as we thank God for the victories.

Our scars include counting on the wrong people; hiring an unqualified leader; investing in dead-end projects; counting on people instead of God; not doing the appropriate due diligence, and plenty more.

Proverbs 24:16 reminds us, “For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”

And II Corinthians 12: 9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
