A Business as Mission Reminder

There is an interesting story in the book of Nehemiah chapter 6. Nehemiah was busy doing a great work building the wall of Jerusalem when some of his enemies sent a message asking to meet with him in a nearby village.  Nehemiah was sure these guys meant to do him harm.

Four times, Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem begged Nehemiah to leave the work and come to consult with them about false rumors that Nehemiah was planning a revolt. He repeatedly responded, “I’m doing a great work; I can’t come down. Why should the work come to a standstill just so I can come down to see you?” (The Message).

Nehemiah had a calling, a vision which he pursued with focus, perseverance and commitment.  He would not stop or even debate his purpose with his detractors.  He stayed on course.  He could see the end in view – a completed wall!

IBEC has a vision, a calling, and we are determined to fulfill it.

Our Vision: We envision an increasing number of Small-Medium sustainable Kingdom businesses with our special emphasis on areas that are both economically impoverished and spiritually unreached.

This is how we attempt this: Our clients pursue business in order to impact people and communities with this four-fold purpose:

  1. Creating sustainable profit and wealth in the communities where they operate (sourced in Deut. 8:18).
  2. Providing jobs that give employees both income and dignity. (sourced in the Great Commandment of Jesus, MT 22: 37-39).
  3. Pursuing spiritual capital and making followers of Christ. (sourced in the Great Commission, MT 28:19-20).
  4. Promoting stewardship of God’s creation (sourced in Genesis 2:15).

It is a privilege to serve in the spirit of Nehemiah with our coaches and clients who “will not come down” from our founding purpose.
