A No-name True Story

One of the most frustrating elements I experience with my attempts to tell stories of God at work through Business as Mission (BAM), is that I can’t tell some of them.  I am not allowed to tell the story because there are risks involved.  I have ways to learn about these stories, but I can’t bless others with what I know.  It doesn’t seem fair that I can’t tell you.

So, can you handle a little mystery?

This is a true story of a couple that I know; in fact, one spouse used to work with me. I received an update today. So here goes – I do not disclose their names, their industry or the location.

The team has been in an impoverished and unreached city for over a decade. By God’s grace, they just opened their 4th retail store. It was the hardest trail to success of all the stores, and included unexpected government challenges, endless meetings with landlords, sleepless nights, and lots of stress in a long and grueling journey. Almost a year was lost! However, God has been faithful despite so many moments filled with doubt, frustration and discouragement.

This most recent store is beautiful with its 1,800 square feet, interior blend of local historical elements, and modern design. It includes a patio and natural flora. The customers are flooding the place – customers from older stores as well as brand-new faces.  The neighborhood is happy with the product so close to them.

The owners are pleased with what matters most – they have created more jobs and expanded their mission. More women have been freed from human slavery and can hear about a new freedom in Christ.  With this new store, the company now has over 100 employees, something they once only dreamed of.

There you have it – my own non-AI version.  There is lots more to this story, complete with the pain and also great joy.  Just know God is at work. BAM is worth it.  There are many more stories like this.
