Memorial Day and Business as Mission

Memorial Day is an important day for a nation like the United States. It is a day to remember and honor those who died while serving in the nation’s military. The day originated after the Civil War where more lives were lost than any other US war (620,000). Memorial Day is different than Veterans Day which originated as Armistice Day, memorializing the end of World War I on Nov 11, 1918, and is a day to remember all service personnel.

Memory is a good thing; and it is good to remember the good things and the challenges in our lives, as well as the experiences of others.

Psalms 143:5 says: “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that You have done; I ponder the work of Your hands.” (ESV)

Here are some quotes that are often associated with Memorial Day but can also be applied to Kingdom Business building as well.  Think about them and relate them to your experience.

  • “Heroes never die. They live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who would follow in their footsteps.” –Emily Potter
  • “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” –Joseph Campbell
  • “My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” –John F. Kennedy
  • “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” –John F. Kennedy
  • “You will never do anything in this world without courage.” –Aristotle
  • “A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom.” –Bob Dylan
  • “Never throughout history has a man who lived a life of ease left a name worth remembering.” –Theodore Roosevelt
